Once our normalized, plastic toothbrushes were worn out, we switched to a more natural, less wasteful style of toothbrush. The only plastic in this whole product (to include packaging) is the bristles. But, they can be easily removed before you compost your brush.
I have to admit, they do take a little while to get used to. They are a little bulkier than plastic but your mouth will adapt to the feel and the Earth will thank you.
The best part, since they look so much a like, is that they come numbered so everyone in the family can use one and know which one belongs to who. You could even paint the bottoms or write your names on the back.
