You might be wondering...what makes candy non-vegan? A lot of things, unfortunately. The most common non-vegan ingredients in candy are:

  • Honey

  • Beeswax

  • Gelatin (made from animal bones)

  • Carmine (red pigment made from insects)

  • Shellac (make from insect excretions)

  • Some sugar is refined with bone char

  • Chocolate products often contain dairy, milkfat, whey, or casein

  • Eggs
